Most roads on Bonaire are paved, but for nature areas such as Washington Slagbaai National Park, a pickup truck or SUV is strongly recommended: the unpaved park roads can be quite rough for a regular car. There is no public transportation on the island and taxis are limited, especially on busy days when a cruise ship is in port.
